Why an Audiologist?
- Audiologists are health-care professionals who evaluate, diagnose, treat and manage hearing loss, tinnitus and balance disorders in newborns, children and adults.
- Audiologists have as a minimum, a Master’s Degree in Audiology, and most earn a Doctor of Audiology (Au.D) degree from accredited universities with special training in the prevention, identification, assessment and treatment of hearing and balance disorders.
- Audiologists are university trained in prescribing and fitting the most technologically advanced hearing aids from a variety of manufacturers, and are required to receive continuing education to maintain their license.
Audiologist vs. Hearing Aid Dispenser
A hearing aid dispenser is licensed to dispense hearing aids, but is not university trained in the evaluation of the type and degree of your hearing loss. A thorough diagnostic test by an Audiologist is necessary to provide optimal management and treatment of hearing loss. Audiologists work closely with physicians to provide medical treatment for hearing loss if indicated.
The Audiologists of Hear Now Audiology assess and manage hearing loss through the following protocol:
- Hearing Evaluation – An audiologist will identify the type and severity of hearing loss by performing a variety of diagnostic tests in a sound treated booth.
- Treatment – Depending on the results of the evaluation, an Audiologist will recommend and fit hearing aids, provide tinnitus management, balance rehabilitation, assistive technology or physician referral for medical treatment.
- Monitoring – Periodic hearing evaluations will be performed to monitor the status of each patient’s hearing sensitivity. Hearing aids are routinely checked, maintained and reprogrammed to assure optimal benefit.
